Finding Negative Core Beliefs [deleted]

I got my therapist to agree that this is a good idea. She also said she would help me with challenging any of these that are really tough at our next appointment.

I'm on fire with this already. I challenged a negative thought, "I can't sew, it gives me a headache". Well, I got my sweater that has a hole in it, found a needle and thread the same color and darned the hole. My sweater is whole now and I found out that I can sew, and it was that perfectionist Home Ec. teacher in middle school that was the one who gave me a headache!!! She said what I had sewn was not right and made me tear out the stitches I had sewn, but they were good enough for me and they would have held just fine!

I CAN SEW! I am happy.

I came up with "I'm lazy" and "I'm stupid" which were both things that were said to me by my father, when I had a learning disability he did not know about. Later after I was diagnosed, he and mom paid for tutoring for me, so I finally learned how to read during my second time through third grade. He no longer called me stupid after that diagnosis.

I worked with my therapist to counteract these things, and felt a lot of relief once I did this. I've been feeling brighter this week, since my therapy session on it.

Thanks Anthony! This is a great exercise. I recommend it highly.
