Fired.

It is a Human Rights violation to fire someone with a Mental disability PTSD.

Confused. Was this a complete thought? Its not a human rights violation to fire someone with a mental disability. In the USA an employer is required to give basic accommodations, but at the end of the day, if you can't do the job then you can in fact be let go. Employers are not required to bend over backward and give every demanded accommodation.

OP, so sorry you were fired.

Thanks, @Solara. :)

I think the worst part is that it ended so ugly, as my boss said some nasty things and it ended up my word against his. I left feeling like it was 7th grade, not a professional place of work.

And knowing that today I'm literally the subject of office gossip isn't helping, but I know I will get through it and be stronger for it.

After this weekend's pity party it's time to move forward, instead of looking back.

I'm sorry, that has happened, but I think it is such a great idea to do a creative art idea with Ptsd people. I was going to do a course because all I wanted to do was art therapy, but it was going to take 5 years of study, and my psychologist thinks I'm not ready for study yet. Do you mind me asking what sort of art etc you are into ? I have found that being creative is the only thing that let's me cope with things, that is what I use to keep going. I would love it if you shared some ideas, if you would like to.
I have done creative art things for a living for the past 15 years.
Thank you

Sammy

@Sammyiam, my focus primarily is on textiles, given there, er, tactile nature. When I first started moving forward in a healing direction, they were all I could feel at first. Working with them led me on a path to my own diagnosis.

Historically, textile crafts have been used with "shell shocked" veterans coming back from various wars and I think there's something to it, the soothing nature of doing one stitch over and over again, seeing the growth of your project in front of you that literally started with nothing, working with something soft that feels good (or just feels at all).

That's great that you've been using your creative output as a vehicle to help yourself, as I, too, think it's so very beneficial! Now I just need to find a way to monetize it...

Hi anonymous,
Can you help out at any places that deal with people with PTSD, or are there any Art Therapists around you that you can call and talk to ? I seen an Art Therapist for a few times and she rang the other day and wants me to help her with ideas to help set up a place to do art therapy etc, as she really liked my work in the gallery I have, and would like me to do some classes with her, to help teach people. If you can get a foot in the door under someone and then start slowly and help out that would be a great way to start. Depression places often have classes with art involved and anxiety places there is all different sorts of places that you can try, not just PTSD as most people with PTSD have other conditions. I don't think I've heard of many that have only PTSD, so that can be another way to start.

Good Luck

Sammy

I think that you are a very brave and courageous person. And also what Russ said as well.
