What Is Sportsbook?

Sportsbook is a fantasy game (entertainment purposes only) that utilises your trophy points earned for participating upon PTSD Forum, as a virtual cash.

Select members have chosen to be bookies, who then manage a specific league sporting event in their country / region, of which they're passionate about. Members simply then bet upon the events with virtual cash.

How Do I Earn Virtual Cash?

Virtual Cash (trophy points) are earned by posting upon the forum, having your content liked, uploading an avatar and more. Basically, the more you interact with the site, the more points you earn. You can see trophies at: [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/help/trophies[/DLMURL]

How Much Cash Do I Get & Can I Buy It?

Cash is accumulated through the Credit system, based on what actions you take upon the forum. Due to laws differing across the world in relation to the use of real money to buy virtual monies, depicting a gambling service or a game, you cannot buy virtual currency. The only way to obtain it is to participate in the community which awards live ongoing values for participation.

How Do I Bet On A Game?

Go to the sports book tab, and you will see a list of current 'open' events that can be bet upon.

You can click upon the 'blue' prefix to show ALL of that leagues open events. Prefixes allow you to quickly sort events by league.

Click on 'more events' or 'events' in the sub-navigation to see all events.
You can click on the event title to see all information.

The event screen gives you all the relevant information. You can see in the top right whether the event is open, closed or being awaiting settlement. The league and event type. You can read when betting for the event closes, typically just prior to the event starting.

Outcome - The list of outcomes the bookie has given that can be wagered. Depending on the league and sporting event, will depend on what outcomes are available.

Current Odds - The brackets show the odds being paid. Disregard how the system writes the odds, as that is for the bookie in relation to fractions versus whole numbers. The brackets contain how much you get paid per dollar for the win. So if team x win, you get $1.50 for every $1.00 you placed. So a 50% return on your investment. Obviously when you get above 2:1, then you double your money, or more.

Total stakes and wages shows how many and how much is staked on a specific outcome.

Place Wager - click the link beside the outcome you want to bet upon. You can bet upon every outcome if you desire. You will then get a popup showing:

Enter the amount you want to bet. Below the field you can see how much virtual cash you have to bet with. Click 'Place Wager' to make your bet.

Can I Get a Refund?

No. All bets are final, and once placed, whether intentional or accidentally, they are final.

The only time a refund is issued is when an event is cancelled or significantly changed, that the bookie has to amend the outcomes or the event entirely. The bookie would then delete existing outcomes, at which time all bets are automatically refunded.

Can I Be a Bookie?

Maybe. Start a thread outlining your league in which you would like to handle, or help manage, and it will absolutely be considered.

Please note, that being a bookie is a commitment, that requires your active participation as others will then become dependent upon you listing the leagues games appropriately, accurately and within a healthy time-frame.

Bookies are paid in virtual cash. The amount will depend on the amount of work required. To enter a weekly round, it could take from an hour to many hours, due to the sheer amount of teams in the competition.

I don't yet have a founded structure, though a weekly round would be paid between $3,000 - $10,000 virtual cash, depending on the work required.

Each league will be viewed uniquely and an amount calculated to determine the work required. Finals are usually much less work because there are less teams, however; if the bookie wants to provide a lot of different odds, i.e. spreads and variations, then that may warrant more paid.

Monies will be paid after the round has completed (weekly), and correctly assigned fixed values based on the work to be done, and the odds the bookie is going to offer.

So, when other sports start being listed they are all going to show up under events? There won't be separate event pages for each sport neh?

Sports are seasonal, so all sports won't be present as you're eluding. That is also why you have the prefix button, the (nfl) in blue, click that and all NFL games only appear.

You would only ever have the following weeks games appear, because bookie companies don't release odds that far in advance due to player injuries, wins, loses, etc, from the current week.

So you will only ever have a week to look at.

Updated the 'can I be a bookie' with a proposed payment plan to help get people interested in their favourite competitions, and managing them here for others to bet upon.

Maybe this is a dumb question...If everyone bets for the same team, will you still get winnings? I know you will get your money back but will you win anything extra?

Who you bet for is regardless, as the bank is unlimited, and that is where winnings come from, unlike real-life where a bookie needs to make money to pay odds. This game the bookie is only the manager, they don't actually pay odds from their winnings, nor earn from wagers losses. The bank is the only winner/loser... the bookie is only the leagues manager who gets paid manually for doing the job.

So yes... everyone gets paid who bets on the winning odds.

I'm currently working on getting sportsbook responsive compatible. It is nearly completed, bar the single events pages themselves. Hope to have it all responsive in the coming day or two.
