Gathering - Eastern Canada/Northeast USA

A few members are wondering if any carers and/or sufferers located in Eastern Canada/Northeastern USA would be interested in exploring the idea of organizing a get-together.

The get-together would possibly be in Ottawa (Ontario) Canada, which is located two hours from Montreal (Quebec) and Kingston (Ontario), and four hours from Toronto (Ontario) and one hour from the USA New York State border at Ogdensburg.

Option 1: Meet sometime soon for a great meal.
Option 2: Meet in the Spring of 2010 and plan a day of events: Example: head up to Cantley (Quebec), go ziplining (4 hour activity), or in Old Chelsea to the outdoor Nordic Spa, followed by a meal somewhere. Out of towners could rent a room in or near Ottawa if they want to stay overnight.
Option 3: Meet in the Spring or summer of 2010 and plan a weekend of activities and rent rooms at a place like Chateau Montebello (Quebec).

As for deciding on which option to go with, I guess majority would rule.

If you think you might be interested in this, we'd love to hear from you! Please let me know which option you prefer (assuming you'll be able to attend when/if we set a date) by posting your thoughts and comments on this thread.

For out of towners, we could coordinate car pools.

I'm sure it would be awesome meeting people we've been chatting on line with at the Forum.

Hi seaworthy,

You'd fly in directly to Ottawa International airport if that's where we end up agreeing to meet, but Toronto and Montreal also have airports.

I'm not sure if I would go to be honest, the main reason why I like to post online is because I don't know anybody and can be anonymous. However, the idea is nice and maybe one day in the distant future I will come.

GTA here. As I mentioned to Johnny, I'm potentially up for it. Especially since I don't like the anonymity of the Internet. But we'll see where I'm at mentally and financially when Spring 2010 rolls around.

I'm also in the area, but wow...this sounds so scary to me. I don't know that I'd like to meet a big group of people who know so much about the parts of me I have kept hidden all these years. It's the anonymity of the internet that allows me to share as much as I do. Then again, it might be quite healing....will have to think on it.

A nice quiet meeting...maybe. Ziplining...lol...not so much.

Great idea though! I'll stay tuned to see what happens...not thinking I'll make it, but I'll give it some thought.

hey Johnny, this sounds like a great idea, I'd prefer camping somewhere in Gods Country with great scenery, birds and a lake; of course, like many others, I bare my soul online and the anonymity makes this possible, besides, when I'm with a group, I worry about their health and safety - not much of a respite for me. Sometime in the future when I'm stronger, more confident and ready to expand my circle of friends, I'll be there.

I've only just come across this. I know Johnny has been a little quiet lately also, so do not know if this is still on the proverbial table?

It's a little scary, but would consider something along these lines. There's some brave talk, I know! I'd have to see how on earth brave I'd be feeling when/if an actual date would be set.

I hope this finds you both well. Yes, I've been a bit quiet lately, just popping in now and then quickly to check for messages.

The tentative get together was cancelled due to insufficient response at the time. Perhaps later down the road it will happen but for now it's on the back burner.
