Interesting. The car accident that started my ptsd problems was because a driver pulled to my right, where there was no lane and then crashed into me. Looking up and seeing him, he had a very intense look on his face, like he was concentrating on plowing into me. It was very scary. He was hunched forward a bit, not leaning back and acting like he was trying to avoid hitting me. It was in front of a school. I ran into an office to call police and waited inside. Instead of calming me, reassuring me of my safety, police ridiculed me and threatened to charge me with leaving the scene of an accident because I went in to call them and would not go outside until other driver was gone. He scared me that badly. Now I wonder how different things might have been if they had calmed me and assured me of my safety instead of ridiculing me and threatening to charge me with leaving scene. I was right there, just away from scary driver and asking school employees to keep him away from me.

What's sad is that in the days before cell phones, you HAD to leave the scene of the accident to call for help! (Barring anyone else calling for you, but as we all know, the bystander effect kicks in and everyone assumes someone else called for help.)

Unfortunately this study doesn't appear to have much interest in ptsd or mental health. Rather, they're looking at how the immune system responds immediately following traum, like car accidents, and hoping to ultimately reduce the number of post-trauma deaths from things like sepsis.

So, it's great, but doesn't seem to be offering much in the way of advancing our understanding or treatment of ptsd.

It's interesting, no doubt.
But I got the same impression as @Ragdoll Circus . It seems like the study is purely physiological immune response to injury, not psychological.

If there was a psychological tie to this phenomenon, that would be very interesting.

Yes. I realize it was about physical changes after trauma. But it got me thinking about the immediate time after the accident. Whether it is just how people treat me or how society today treats everyone, I was treated very badly. And it made me realize my problems might not have been so bad if I had been treated better. What is really scary, is that if a stalker wants to know where you live and other information, all he/she has to do is crash a car into the one you are driving. They immediately have access to all your info at dmv. There is no protection for the victim. I have a p o box. I have confidential voter registration. But still anyone crashing into me gets my info. There is no safety.
