Got My Psychiatrist Appointment, But Seeing Red Over The Way, They Handled My File

I think we are missing that fact that Therisa is upset at her treatment, and that she wants support. I'm sure she will do what needs to be done, but after you are invalidated, you sometimes just want support, then you can take action. I apologize for talking for you, Therisa. Correct me if I am wrong.

I'm big on finding the actions or beliefs that "best serve" my own goals and direction. I certainly CAN choose offense, but if I do, does that "best serve" me? I agree with Ronin.

Now I'm off this thread, though Therisa, I hope it won't start your therapy on a sour note or with a resentment. I hope your treatment goes well.

But isn't it also true that many of us with PTSD are not in touch with our feelings, and when we have them it is good to feel them, then get on with handling the issue? Intellectually, that is absolutely correct, but many of us with PTSD have overwhelming feelings, and must process the feelings before we get to what is best for us to do. I find this works well for me, and it takes a day or two longer to decide how to respond to things, but I don't respond badly so much anymore.

Albatross, our experiences are different, thus how we see things, are filtered through a different lense. I will never understand what it means to be a ciswoman, but I can tell you, being trans, carries a different load of baggage, which I have seen strong people, buckle under.

I do wish i knew what a ciswoman is.

You're right Therisa, our reactions are informed by our previous experiences. You are looking at this through the lens of someone who has been invalidated and marginalized because of your transgender status before. For me, if someone referred to me as 'sir' instead of 'miss,' at most I would probably just think that person was weird. I would find it bizarre if someone told me they were using the word as a weapon against me.

You think what happened was a big deal, I don't. Simple as that. As you said, agree to disagree. But since it is a big deal to you, I would suggest the same solution to you as I would to anybody who is unsatisfied with the service they're receiving; go to the boss and explain your grievances in a calm and concise manner. People are more likely to comply with your requests, whatever that request may be, if you deal with them in a courteous manner. Not saying that guarantees that they will, just that your chances are higher. Instead of looking at it as, "They SHOULD know better!" try looking at it through the lens of, "They don't know better, but I have the power to change that."

Sorry that I'm not able to offer you anything better than that. I'm informed by my previous experiences as well and my previous experience has taught me we can either chose to be the victim our whole life or we can realize that we were victimized before but have power and the ability to be at peace even in the midst of less-than peaceful circumstances.

I hope your treatment goes well too. Keep us informed.
