So last week I closed up shop for 5 days (the grand total of my years holidays, self employment does suck sometimes)
And well I wanted to go to Holland for a couple of things I am organising in the shop, so We ended up in Arnhem.
Done the usual Bridge and battlegrounds around the city including upto Oosterbeck and the Airborne Museum and the Commenwealth Cemetary. One thing that hit me was a Plaque outside the museum dedicated from the Airborne to the City. Funny thing is that not only am I stood there but a couple of other Brits and all of us have tears in our eyes.
But the good thing was my nipper getting the chance to see a bit of history firsthand.
I also went upto the Grebbeberg, which is where the Dutch made their stand against the Germans in May 1940, holding them up for 3 days untill they had to surrender. At the time it was one of the few battles where the Germans got a bloody nose.
All the pics I made and notes I took are for me to be able to build a realistic gaming table in the shop for the ww2 guys.
One thing I have noticed though is how bloody expensive information is becoming on certain subjects. And allthough I am not one to complain about paying for something where someone else done the leg work, I at times do get wound up at the way some people make money on what is basicaly our or fellow vets suffering.
