Has Anyone Read The Book "Toxic Parents"?

I haven't ever heard of it until your post - I went online and checked it out and am going to attempt to find a copy now. Just wanted to thank you for mentioning it.

It has been recommended to me before, but I've never read it. I would be interested to hear what you thought of it after you're done reading.

I read it~skimmed it many many years ago. It is tucked away somewhere's. I don't recall all of it but do remember it being very rough at the time to read. Very accurate though but I wasn't ready to hear or do anything about it. I should probably pull it back out and read it again in light of me and my mother and siblings now not on speaking terms again *my doing*.

I have the book and have read the chapters recommended to me. I have now gone back to the beginning and am reading from the start.

My thoughts....if you are wanting to 'deal' with the affect Toxic Parents have had on you it is not something you can just sit down and read in an afternoon. I found that I have to read some and then go and think about it. It is really relevant to my comment about CPTSD........

Parents mold children. They guide them, instil values and morals, teach right from wrong and provide a model of adult life to children while they do it. They are meant to love, protect and nurture.

When parents do harmful, abusive and sick things to their children they mold a very ill person which is generally not that identifiable to the child themselves until they enter the adult world on their own and see how different their thinking style is to others as well as other indicators.

How do you break a mold?

I read it many years ago - it was also serialized in a national newspaper because it was held in such high esteem.

Makes you really consider the impact of behaviour on children by parents/caregivers

Thanks for mentioning the book. I looked at reviews in the internet and decided to buy it. I am on the first pages and it touches me deeply already.

I also just bought the book. I've only gotten through one chapter but as it states in the book its not about speed.
Thanks.

Manic

I got the book and I am having the hardest time with it. I am getting used to get this kind of book, reading part of it and not being able to finish.

Maybe someday...
