ED (healthy) alternatives to restricted eating for gaining control?

So I used to be super into health and wellness pre-trauma, and since physical and PTSD issues prevented me from the gym and changed my whole life, I've gained some weight and have not been able to workout the same since. I'm working on it, but, like you, I was using the number of the scale and what I put in my mouth as a form of control. Do not be shy in seeing a dietician. It's super super helpful to even just talk about it with someone. We generally know most of our thoughts are irrational, and if we are going to do some form of restriction, at least being engaged with a dietician will help us do it appropriately, and or keep our harms down to a lesser degree.

Even when pre-PTSD when I was super healthy I would see a dietician. To me, it's like going for regular check-ups at the doctor or dentist office. The resources are available? USE THEM!!!

What happens when you go to a dietician? As in like what happens in the appointment? I think part of w...

Same thing as a doctors or therapist office. You go in, tell them about your challenge (obviously nutrition focused), and you work together to help you ensure you are getting the proper nutrition for your needs. They will offer suggestions and education.

Say if you’re diabetic and you say you enjoy a donut every morning. A dietician will educate you on the process of the sugars and insulin in your body and will inform you of healthier options. If at this point what they are suggesting doesn’t seem feasible in your life, then you two can discuss that and find something thay works.

For me, when I get triggered and am hyperaroused or experiencing some symptom that doesn’t let me sit down to prepare food or eat, my dietician and I made up a list of two ingredient shakes I could make. I could only handle a list of 5 varieties and have been working on having the shakes as something to have with me all day vs. Something unhealthy or not eating at all. — this just happens to be what works best for me. You and your dietician will figure out things that works to meet your needs
