Hearing loss and tinnitus

I have moderate hearing loss, confirmed by a hi tech hearing test in a sound proof booth last week. I've known I couldn't hear properly for a while, not hearing people if i couldn't see their face, couldn't hear the tv, certain sounds "hurt" my ears. Plus my ears hurt constantly. And then the constant buzzing noise that in the last week had gone from slight, to major. Mostly on the right side, where my hearing loss is worse, but occasionally on the left. This sound is with me at all times, broken only when I'm in stores or other places with ambient noise, where of course, I can't hear people tAlking. And dizziness. Or whatever you'd call feeling like the floor is dropping out from under you semi weekly.

So today I have an MRI to see if there's any tumors and Monday I'm getting fitted for hearing aids.

I can accept the hearing loss, which may have been caused by 20 years of working on the telephone, and maybe even the hearing aids. I knew I had the issue. I have a lot of hair so maybe the aids won't show. But the sound...this never ending sound... it is making me crazy. I love quiet and now there is no quiet. It's making me depressed, not to mention scared of what the MRI might show.
I have been doing so well with coping, using my dbt skills, sleeping great. Trying not to let this get me down but it's hard.

I've had tinnitus for 18 years now. Never could figure out what caused it. I flew back from CT and it just started. No injury or anything. My hearing was tested and the docs did some other examinations having to do with balance, but everything came back normal. I've found that some things make it louder and take it from ringing to roaring - certain medications, loud music or noise for an extended period of time, and allergies. I've also developed hyperacusis as a result - can't handle squealing or booming noise, or screaming children. I've found that playing background music helps a lot to distract my mind from the noise. Sorry you're going through this and hope that your tests come back negative. Hang in there.

I developed tinnitus a year and a half ago after a student grabbed me, jerked me around, pushed me on the ground, pulled on my hair the entire time. I have been told there is no test and no treatment. Then I read there is. But I can't find a place to give me an appointment and find out if I can get an official diagnosis and if there is treatment that will help.

When I keep my mind occupied, it isn't too bad. I also find stress makes it worse. I cope pretty well most of the time. But then I reach a point where I feel I just can't take it anymore. But there is no relief. I have to find ways to cope. I hate it.

Sorry I'm just getting back on here. Test results were negative, so I know I'm the proud owner of hearing aids. They are a bit difficult to get adjusted to, but they definitely help the tinnitus. I also hear better which is a plus, so I'm hoping that everything will adjust.
