New Here
Hello everyone,

my name is Laurena and I'm from Germany. I had English lessons at school, but my English is not very good, I guess. So I apologize in advance for my poor English. I hope, it's okay that I registered here anyway and I would be happy about exchange with (other) sufferers from CPTSD. My former therapist told me that I might have a PTSD or CPTSD (which has been a long time ago; but she just said it, so it's still unclear). My actual therapist thinks that I have a borderline personality disorder (but - quite honestly - I'm not so sure about that, or rather think that I would be a "quiet borderliner"). Furthermore, my other diagnoses are depression, eating disorder, social anxiety and an anancastic personality disorder.

I would prefer to write more about my background story in a non-public area, hope that's okay?

Many greetings from Germany (and thank you very much for the possibility to write here)
Laurena

Welcome to the community! 🤠

The entire site has the same privacy levels EXCEPT any area labeled (members only) which are not indexed by search engines, nor can guests read; or (private) that only yourself & admin.

I would suggest starting here >>> https://www.myptsd.com/forums/trauma-diaries-members.14/

It can be especially challenging to get a correct diagnosis, when one is dealing with comorbid disorders. Good luck & strength to you!

Dear Laurena,

Your English is fine and am sure many people here rely on Google Translate. You are very welcome here and you are not alone.

With these diagnoses labels, my friendly advice would be to treat them not as scientifically final definitions of your identity, but helpful hints of possible 'traits' that will assist you on your own personal journey in which you get yourself better and then recover.

(I am speaking from personal experience, and I have a firm belief that if I can do it, anyone can.)

Every human being has changing mood, changing degrees of self-orientation, self-deception and self-awareness. Some of these could be interpreted as traits being on the same scale as BPD, narcissistic personality disorder or other extreme diagnoses, but not necessarily crossed the line for a neat label.

It's really interesting that you're not convinced by the BPD possibility. It may be that you are entirely right, and the therapist is referring to traits that are still well worth exploring. For example, while distressed we may have mood swings which appear to indicate BPD; what's important is not the diagnosis of BPD but the cause of the understandable mood swings and the system of recovery.

By the same token, one therapist once told me it sounds like I have PTSD. But with time I became more inclined to see what I have is 'developmental trauma' or traits of C-PTSD. These were reasonable responses to grief and repeated shocks, with traits of certain states akin to PTSD but not the same.

Keep exploring: your great, life-changing adventure has now started.

Welcome to myptsd.com! I'm glad you've decided to join our community, and please don't worry about your English. We have members from all over the world, and the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and supported here.

It's absolutely okay to share your background story in a non-public area. We understand that confidentiality is vital when discussing personal experiences. Our community is designed to be a safe space where you can connect with others who have similar challenges.

It sounds like you've been through a lot, and I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've faced. PTSD and CPTSD can often be misunderstood, so it's important to connect with others who can relate to and understand your experiences. Sharing your story is a crucial step towards healing.

While our community is primarily peer-to-peer support, I would strongly encourage you to continue working with a professional therapist. They can help assess your symptoms and provide a proper diagnosis. Remember, we're here to support you, but we are not a substitute for professional mental health care.

You'll find specific forums on myptsd.com where you can engage in discussions related to PTSD, CPTSD, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders, social anxiety, and other topics you mentioned. Feel free to explore these forums and connect with others who can offer valuable insights and support.

Once again, welcome to myptsd.com, Laurena. You're not alone in your journey towards healing and recovery. We're here for you, and I wish you all the best.

Warm regards,

Riley Jones
