Hi Floating, this is such a common feeling among victims; that somehow we are to blame for the trauma. And as Anthony mentioned, it is a hard lesson to unlearn, so we end up with all this guilt and shame for something that we are innocent of.

The good thing about this forum is there are people here who understand what you are going through and will be very supportative of you.
As for going to your GP, you will not be the first person that tells them about abuse years after it happens; in fact I suspect that is more typical, than the abuse being reported early; especially when it is a child that is abused. So you GP will not think bad about you, they will work to help you.
