I thought I would introduce myself. I have been a member for over a year and have benefitted greatly from reading the posts here. I am a 50 year old survivor of severe, prolonged, sexual abuse from a grandparent (3-7) and a minister (14-28). I have Developmental Trauma Disorder as well as PTSD. I have been in therapy since age 19, seeing one therapist 4 years, another for 20, and my current therapist, who specializes in trauma, for the past year. I am trying to work on my avoidance issues as well as over dependence on my therapist, which is why I am reaching out with a hello here.

Hi Casper, nice to meet you.
I am glad you are working on the issues in your life, and look forward to reading how you are progressing in your post.

Hi @Casper1018... I also had severe prolonged sexual abuse from my father. It's not an easy thing to get over. I have been in therapy and groups for many years too. Since my second trauma ( car accident ) my PTSD became very severe. I am now seeing a trauma therapist and he is wonderful. Do you find a difference with a trauma therapist?

Welcome to the forum. There are lots of articles and wonderful people here. It has helped me through some rough days. Hope you find it as helpful as I have.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, @Notsowild, I see a huge difference! I have grown more this past year than I did during my 20 years with a Psychodynamic oriented therapist. This therapy is more relational, which has been important in healing my attachment issues. She is very focused on keeping the "adult me" in the drivers seat and focuses on the "here and now" rather than rehash my traumas. They are just too numerous to process, so we address them as they surface, refocus on coping, and keep to the basics. I just had to do a Safety Plan due to chronic suicidal ideation to help me have action oriented things to go to rather than going to my automatic freeze/dissociated mode. Using this forum as a resource was on the list, so, I'm proud of taking this risk!
