New Here
I joined the site today hoping to make new friends. My dear buddy is going through a lot with PTSD. He's a Combat Vet and I'm hoping to get some good advice about how to help him and be a good friend to him. I want him to get better, somedays he's so happy and other days he just cries. I hope someone will listen and read my post and reply. :dontknow:

HI,

I don't know very much about combat PTSD, and try not to say intrude where I know not-much since one could easily say something quite idiotic, you know? I do know there's a lot of Carer's here, and information available to help them. It's very thoughtful you'd think so much of him you'd join here. If you think he'd be receptive, and find it useful yourself perhaps he'd find it helpful also. My nephew did a tour not long ago and I do wish he'd stop in and browse here.

I do wish it wasn't called a 'tour', like some pleasure trip to a museum. I can't think of a worse word, for where he was and what he went through and he doesn't even talk about 1/100th of it.

I hope you find some answers and help here,

Anni

Hi and welcome. I think you are being a great friend in coming here and wanting to find out more. The carer support is outstanding here. I may get into trouble saying this, but trauma is trauma. Some of it has origins in what your friend went through and some equally as horrific. Through my trauma recovery, which is similar to your friend, I have have learned a great deal from many people; including police, firefighters, EMS, victims of abuse/crime and their respective carers. All the best, Dan.

Hey there, JV811 and welcome aboard!

I empathize with you and applaud you for wanting to learn more for your friend's sake. I have a really good friend that is a Navy Veteran that was deployed to the Mid East. The best thing you can do is just be there for them and be a listening ear. I tell my friend she can all me up and anytime if she needs to get things off her chest. While you may not be able to completely understand what your friend has gone through, your friend will greatly appreciate you just being supportive of him. :)
