Also, if you live in California, it is called Medi-cal, not medicaid. If you live in poverty, you will qualify for it.

Many states have public mental health clinics that provide services on a sliding fee scale and if income is low enough, services are free. Medicaid requirements are extremely strict but it may be worth it to check out other options. Job loss may also make it possible for you to try to obtain coverage through the Exchange. I'm not sure what it would cost as it is income based, but it wouldn't hurt to see if something is available.
