New Here
I guess this is where I introduce myself. I live in NYC and am an artist there. I am a 45 year old male. I had a series of events happen recently to me that triggered a severe depression like I have never had. I needed help in a big way, as everything was falling apart for me. The event that triggered the extreme depression was banal and did not match the intensity of my extreme physical and mental spiral. I had to get help. Through my work I was flagged on a online mental health test and had an appointment with a wonderful psychotherapist within 12 hours.
I am now in my 4th week of therapy 2 times a week. The source of my destructive feelings are apparently "emotional flashbacks" from a traumatic time in my childhood. I'm am coming to understand this now logically, it's just hard to grasp because the emotions are so current and are attaching themselves to events now.

Anyway I am happy to find this forum and thanks for listening!

Hi Boa,

Welcome. I am real happy to hear you have met a counselor who has been able to help out so efficiently. I respect your observations stemming back into your childhood and how that connects to your current issues. GREAT JOB !!!

Thanks. It's hard. These feelings are so current. My therapist says emotions don't know time. I'm in this for the long haul and am going to see it through. Thanks for the encouragement.

It is a shock when the spiral begins and only once you start to conect the dots does any of it make sense. Even though it makes sense to some degree it is hard to keep the dots connected for long periods of time. As you can tell I am a bit loopy today.
