I'm finding Lyra to be quite the character. Strong, determined and motivated, albeit just a child who is fragile and scared at the same time. Am I correct that the daemon is like an extension of each person? They can feel what each other feels. Pain, excitement, fear, etc. I didn't really pay any attention to the books description, about it being made into the movie "The Golden Compass." I watched that, hence my deja vu when reading this. The book is much better though, from my memory of the movie. Like all books, far more descriptive and understanding of the underlying.
I'm up to Lyra being rescued by the gyptians, and taken to their rally. I don't remember the movie all that well, though I'm thinking the gyptians aren't all that honest either with Lyra. I was a little stunned to discover Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter being her true parents. Hidden from her mother, as her father killed her mothers husband, even though she slept with him when married, getting pregnant. A love triangle there with just a tad animosity I think. :cautious:
