Relationship How Do You Trust Them?

How do you trust that they are "just" isolating/triggered not creating distance because there might be someone else? (People retreating and/or getting ticked off by "minor" things being signs of trouble in the relationship.)
How do you trust that their acting out is "just" a triggered situation and not a sign of dwindling respect and/or Guilt about something they are hiding? (Deflection and anger being two telltale signs of lying.)
How do you trust they don't sometimes use their symptoms as an excuse to exert control over you and the relationship?

The symptoms of PTSD and dishonesty are sometimes so blurred...it's really bending my mind.
I don't. Partly because of my own past issues, but mostly because of his track record. Unlike @Sweetpea76 and her partner, mine hasn't earned trust.

Since posting this, I have been working hard to get to the bottom of my trust issues. My sufferer and I had a great conversation where I could tell him how these issues came to be, and it looks like he understands the origin now.

On the other hand, he doesn't seem to trust me anymore that I can give him what he needs when our conversations escalate. One too many times I missed the boat and didn't give him enough space. That might be the nail in our coffin. As much as I've been trying to work on rebuilding trust with him - and also trying hard to be patient and give him space - he seems to now run with his mistrust and that's that. And now I'm mistrusting again that he will actually stick through this with me - after all the hell we've been through. It never ends.
