I finally plucked up the courage to see a gynecologist

For years I’ve been dealing with chronic pain throughout my pelvis and the left side of my body.

Two years after I started menses, my period stopped and then suddenly I was in unbearable pain and had painful periods ever since. I live with chronic pain all the time and it gets worse during my period.

When I was 28, I had to go to the ER for a 10 cm cyst that formed on my left fallopian tube. I ended up having laparoscopic surgery to have it removed.

I’ve been told by doctors that I might have Fibromyalgia, while my GYN says it might be Endometriosis. My gynecologist also mentioned that I might have PCOS, according to the vaginal ultrasound that was done, but says it doesn’t necessarily have to cause pain.

I had a vaginal ultrasound and am going to get bloodwork done.

I might be seeing a pain reprocessing therapist while this gets worked on.

Here’s to hoping that the chronic pain will subside with the right help.

That’s the thing about “real” abdominal pain… it often “refers” elsewhere (google “referred pain” for a better explanation)… because there are large gaps in the sensory nerves throughout the abdomen.

So endometriosis can present as SEVERE & DEBILITATING back pain, pain in your limbs, headaches, pain on one side of the body, or one quadrant, etc. Pretty much pain, anywhere, except where it’s actually originating from. As there aren’t the right nerves to relay it. (Just like fibromyalgia, but unlike fibro, with an actual cause that can be treated… IF AND ONLY IF… you can find it. Usually somewhere between your ribs & pelvis). As the brain doesn’t have a way to accurately say “where” the pain is coming from, your spine kind of takes a “best guess” from other nearby nerves. Or throws its hands up & says pain is coming FROM your spine. Because that’s where the “pain!” message is being relayed from. Where from?!? IDFK! Make it stop!!! Now. Grrrrrrr. PAIN PAIN PAIN.

Well done, you.

Here’s to hoping that the chronic pain will subside with the right help.
cheers!
