So I've sprained my ankle. No, it wasn't at the gym, while riding a horse, while hiking up a mountain, it wasn't even a fall persay. I slipped down the stairs.
Slipped!!!
I mean, it could've at least been something a little more dignified. But no, I got stupid, was paying more attention to what was on my phone then where I was putting my feet, and as I was walking down the stairs, I mistepped and down I went. My foot hit the floor at an odd angle and I heard a crunch. Next thing you know I was lying on the stairwell feeling dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, faint, hyperventilating, hot and sweaty, all the fun stuff you experience when you hyper extend a joint. I felt it swell up almost instantly. Thankfully two of my guy friends were right behind me and they were my knights in shining armour who called Public Safety and helped me get down the rest of the stairs and into a chair.
So long story short, I got taken to the ER and thankfully there weren't any fractures, so it's just a bad sprain. I got put in a spllint, given crutches, and sent on my merry way. I've had an injury like this before, in fact it was very similar circumstances, but that was back when I was in high school and I just stayed with my dad for a couple days and he took care of me. Now, not only is the injury worse than that one, but I'm in college now and must take care of myself as well as cope with the loss of the utility of one of my limbs. The crutches are almost as bad as the sprain itself. Never mind how tired I get just going across the bridge to get from my room the the dining hall to get food (and I must eat regularly otherwise I can't take my asprin) and how sore it makes my muscles, but they leave their own set of bruises and angry red sores on my sides just from rubbing. I'm not supposed to put the weight on my armpits, but I get tired so quickly it's really impossible not to. My sides stung last night as I was showering from the warm water running over the sores.
This sucks
Some of my friends and roommates have been kind enough to go shopping for me and share their ibuprofen and ice packs with me. So that's a plus, but frankly I'm gettting plain frustrated with having my mobility so limited. I've already missed three days of classes because just being on the crutches now is agonizingly painful. I'm almost out of my medication and there's no way I'll be able to make my normal walk down to the local Target pharmacy to refill on my own.
AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, words of encouragement would be appreciated.
