I Killed My Unborn Chicks??.......

Gloria, that sounds really interesting, please let us know how it works out. :) Good luck with all this and any pics you might be able to share would be awesome.

There will be five pigmy eggs arriving any minute and I hope they survive. You know why I'm doing this? I have a horrible time at Christmas so last Christmas wasn't as bad because I changed things like not listening to any Christmas music and using different decorations and foods so I would not be triggered to miss my sister and husband. So if these don't hatch around November 20th, I will order more eggs and try for Christmas chicks. How can you be depressed on Christmas when you are playing with baby chicks. I know this may sound extreme but I DO NOT want the Christmas blues. I don't want to spend another holiday crying in bed because I miss my family.

JB, I hope to send you pics of some cute chicks! If none hatch I will send you pics of some hot girl chicks in bikinis!!!:p

I admire your spirit, Gloria. And your 'get up and change it' attitude. Think what you're doing is really creative, even to the point of the type of chickens you picked; they are so cool! Kinda amazing...how 'bout the proud stance? Bantams, who woulda thought...:D...? Best wishes for a wonderful (and spiritually meaningful) Christmas, Gloria.

I love this thread. When I was little, we had chickens, too. I did get attached. Somewhere in my family's photos is one of me sitting in the chicken coop with my little red hen. My brother had a barred rock he was fond of. There is a family story of when he was little where he disappeared only to be found sitting on the couch watching TV with a huge chicken on his lap. There is another story (I do not remember) where my mom saved me from a rooster. I have scars on the back of my legs that my mom said were from the rooster. She was convinced it was going to kill me if it could. I was really little and it must not have been too traumatic because I love chickens.

If you want to see cute little pets, look up Silkies. They look like Christopher Lloydd with hair sticking up and hanging over their eyes. I am proud to announce that I kissed and prayed over my new eggs and then put them in the incubabater which for some reason is maintaining perfect temp and humidy now. I have ordered another incubabor but you actually should have two because when the eggs start hatching, you move to the new incubator so that they don't make a mess and create a bacterial environment for the eggs that haven't hatched yet.

I was working as an excecutive when I first bought this farm and came in late with the most crazy excuses that the first thing that we did at the morning meeting was for me to explain my excuse as to why I was late for work:
  • My goat had a sore udder and she wouldn't let me milk her
  • I picked up the horse electic fence charger and when I carried it against my belly, got knocked over by the electic shock (this is true and the shock hurt a lot!!).
  • One of my horses knocked down a piece of fence.
  • One of my chickens had an egg stuck in her and I had to pull oil in and take it out with thongs.

Anouncement: Out of fifty eggs, we have one chick coming out of his shell this morning! Every book says it's very important not to help the chick but I'm watching a creature be born today. What a joy!!
I will post pictures as soon as little baby is presentable. At the present moment, there is one leg sticking out and a lot of chirping. It's supposed to take a day to hatch. It was an Auracana egg. We already have about 20 of the Easter egg layers (they are from Chile and lay colored eggs!) We don't have an Auracana rooster. What if we have a boy?

How exciting!!!!!! I hope one is a boy and the other is a girl!!! Then lots of other brothers and sisters!!!:inlove:

Baby's first picture. As you can see his/her sibling is still in the shell but you can hear it chirping! Chickie is already eating and drinking so he's out of danger. He'll grow up and brag that he's one of the few survivors of Gloria's inexperienced incubation experiment.:x3:

Gloria, I have just found this thread. If I had room, I'd keep chickens. I've no idea about incubation but I adore chickens. Well done you for doing something so lovely and unusual. If I get my dream and get to move house in the future I'll be getting some chickens. I'd like ducks too so perhaps I'll do the joey and Chandler thing from Friends and have a chick and a duck!
