I Killed My Unborn Chicks??.......

Out of fourteen eggs, most didn't even hatch but lost some after trying to hatch.

They are getting fluffy and drinking water and they are only the size of a quarter! What a wonderful way to start the New Year! I don't know if they are boys or girls but they already have personalities. One is very clumsy and keeps falling down and can't get up. One is already pecking the others and one never shuts up!

Way to go Gloria! They are so cut and as Ayesha said, I love the one who is falling over!

Congratulations and welcome to the world little bundles of feathers - what a joy!

Gloria! They are Soooo cute! The size of a quarter?? wow! I have to say I got a kick out of the one falling down in the back too. :p

I am going to put a tiny little bit of food coloring on them until I can learn to identify each one. The one that falls down is easy to spot. I think I'll call him Humpty Dumpty. I sure hope he outgrows this? Imagine a full grown chicken falling down with his legs up in the air and he can't get up? The other chickens will laugh and call him names! :D

If you watched them fall over and lay there with their feet up in the air and knocking and then finally get up and then one of the other chicks bumps into them and they fall down again. It's funny! I've gotten day old chicks many times and they were steady on their feet but these guys are silly!

Latest pics of the chicks. They are only 1 inch tall and already getting feathers. I adore them. I can't even put a water dish in their incubator because they could fall in and drown. I have raised "normal" chicks but these are so quiet and sweet. I go to Farm and Fleet when the chicks come in and you can't hear yourself think because the chicks are so darn loud but they hardly make a sound.

The adults make this really cool sound like the jungle. It sounds like the Everglades. I like my little birds and I have 16 in the incubator but this time I think I finally got it right. They are from the tropics so the humidity has to be very, very high or they dry up in their shells. I really hope that I never lose another chick. I get soooo sad.

Oh Wow Gloria! They look so well! Aren't you the proud Mama!! And all 4 of them stood upright this time! Well done they are truly awesome!

I was afraid that I would have to put down one chick that just couldn't stand up. I had a chick that had this genetic thing and never could stand up and kept the poor thing alive by feeding four or five times a day for about three years. When it was winter, she couldn't get off the cold cement in the coop. I finally put her down because it was no life and I didn't want one chicken to take over my life.

So I was sad but I thought I would have to put the chick down but the little squirt is running around like crazy and I can't even catch them. Chicken keeping is so disgusting but you have to check the chicks' butt every day to make sure that their feces isn't blocked and if it is, you have to wipe their butts. Of course, like any kid, they hate to have their little butts wiped so they make it hard for me to catch them. The brats!;)
