I Killed My Unborn Chicks??.......

My mother as decided that she wants to have chickens and some goats. I love the idea! I think she will really enjoy it!

Any tips? :)
Know that goats can climb and will eat leather and pine trees. Make sure that the chickens have have something that helps them get rid of fleas or lice. Also, they can die from either the heat or cold and must be protected from predators. Message me if you need advice.
Such fun!

A blessing from God! Out of 30 eggs, five died when trying to hatch. I was discouraged and then this morning when I was putting water in the incubator, I heard a faint chirping and sure enough one of the eggs that I had been sticking in the incubator when my hen laid them (just in case they might hatch) was pipping (chipping out of the shell!) Well, it was so scarey because I was so afraid that this one would die but he lived and he's alive and kicking. It's not unusual for these tiny chicks not to be able to stand for a day or so but he's chirping so loud that my cat is trying to open the incubator so I took the incubator in my bathroom and locked the door. He will stay in the incubator for a couple days until he can stand but my hen laid a fertile egg and I've been putting her eggs in the incubator and it looks like I will be hatching a live chick every day for the next month! My eggs are healthy because I feed my chickens lots of vitamins and calcium. The eggs I was getting in the mail were porous and porous eggs usually don't produce live chicks.

Also, I can't believe it when I went to pick out my new baby goats (because my goat passed away) the woman gave me a Silkie of my very own! I can breed the Silkie with my Seramas and they produce soft and fluffy beautiful little chickens. I stuck with it and now I am doing it. These chickens sell for a lot of money!! I have to build an outdoor aviary for the summer and I'm putting tree branches inside and it's going to be so nice. Here are pics of my newborn and my new Silkie!! Don't worry! The chick is very healthy and chirping and kicking his legs. He looks half dead in the picture but he's really healthy!

Congratulations Gloria! Gosh, he's just too cute for words! I love him! If I get my dream of moving house, I'll get some chickens, ducks and a couple of pygmy goats!

Well done you and thanks so much for the photos. x

The poor thing is all by himself and I've never seen a smaller chick but he's already getting feathers and I have a feeling he's going to be a show champion. I feel a little overwhelmed by all the animals right now. You can't take a day off. I get up at 4-5 a.m. and then around 4 p.m. I start to crash. If it weren't for the terrible pain, i would sleep. But I wake up all night long with pain and wonderful PTSD nightmares thrown in. I'm so tired. Do think about who will take care of them if you want to take a day off. I don't have anyone that can take of 3 horses, 3 goats, 30 chickens, 5 dogs and 2 cats (and all of them are on special diets and my cat gets IV therapy for kidney failure twice a day!) I am getting teeth pulled and they tell me I will get dry socket if I don't rest. Well, that ain't going to happen. There is no rest for the wicked!!

Gloria,

That is a lot, but your sons are there and should be able to lend a hand. I know it is hard to let go and delegate, but sometimes you just have to for yourself.
