Robin Williams was suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. It's the second-most common form of dementia, after Alzheimers. Depression is one of the many symptoms, but in his case - what was going on that led to his suicide was (according to his widow) lewy body dementia.

I haven't looked back any further to see what his earlier psych diagnoses might have been. I'm very pro-awareness in general, but in his case, the awareness should be about LBD, which is often missed and thought to be parkinsons or Alzheimers instead. It mimics a number of psychiatric conditions, but doesn't respond well to those medications. It cannot be conclusively diagnosed except by post-mortem exam, but neurologists do seem to be able to ID it in differential diagnosis.

The folks I know who have schizophrenia, bi-polar, manic are all still looked down upon by society in my humble opinion

I didn't know that. Honestly, I didn't dig after the orginal depression info that was everywhere. I know he was open about depression but I had never heard of LBD. Thanks for the info!
