This is mainly just to vent. Woke up this morning to alarmed messages from friends -- a group of unknown hackers (probably government backed) published a list of all the journalists who have worked in the occupied territories in Ukraine, portraying them all as Kremlin-backed spies and enemies of the state. I'm on the list. Unlike all the other foreign reporters on it, I still live in the country, so now I feel like I have a target on my back. Well, I do have a target on my back. It's just so stupid. Journalists being punished for doing their jobs and trying to show the full picture.

It has been quite some time since I believed that people who seek to expose the truth are valued in this society. It is a bitter pill to swallow.

Well, they can be sure this is going to backfire. And I will do my part to crucify them for this in the Western press -- not going to look good that a Ukrainian official has put a young, pregnant journalist at risk, in addition to the 7,000 other people on the list. I will do my part to obliterate them for this.

Who can support you, locally?
& How seriously are these sorts of messages taken where you are, aside of the time right after publishing, how quick are people to act on it, usually?
(Basically saying while with a painted target on you, there's still quite a lot of factors that can be influencible and to some degree predictable, and help you protect your safety, so weight them.)

Hi Casey, this is pretty scary. You've been so courageous thru your postings here, I am hoping that with this information leak, you could go to a consulate citing a new threat to your well being...maybe now they could assist getting you someplace safe?
