I am wondering if there are any others who also have been diagnosed with PTSD and are currently in thearapy notice ongoing improvements in your cognitive ability to better function? How often? When?

@KeepItSimple not yet but I never thought I lost it. My boss and coworkers did.

I suffer from mostly short term memory problems and have a short attention span if I’m not interested.

However, I have been learning so much about PTSD to help manage symptoms and this site has been really helpful with articles and books. So , yes maybe it is improving.

What about you?

I noticed at times during or after therapy i feel my old mental sharpness fire up, decrease in symptoms like avoiding/hiding/triggers. Then for sure again and again i exhaust myself and become slow n dumb.

Still finding ways to find balance

I notice that recently I've been more fully engaged in each moment. This is wonderful because I catch myself checking out less often. (oops. I hope this means that I'm doing it less, not noticing it less 8-0 ) The short term memory issue is very distressing, as I usually operate in a rapidly changing environment where picking up a new process or technology on the fly is important. The other question about cognitive functioning: I can't keep up like I used to. It takes me longer to find patterns for organizing large amounts of information aka critical thinking, and even creativity is harder. I can't juggle several projects in my mind like I used to. I don't know if this is a natural factor of brain changes with age or if it's ptsd. I'm now thinking about different ways of approaching my work to maximize my abilities. I can look around and realize that I'm doing tons more than my peers. I'm fine with that and I'm fine with backing out of some projects. I'm not fine with my work quality declining.

Re: Balance
Today I went for a bike ride, probably under 10 km....

I miss mountain biking.
I raced junior once at tahoe when i was little little boy.

Never got into downhill. XC cross country and fireroads made me feel amazing. I am messed up physically and have a tbi so i am not allowed to ride anymore. Reading your post makes me feel the light.

Fireroads are awesome. You can ride so fast drop your gearing. I was taken out once by a bee that crashed into my eye so remember to wear shades for safety.

I love bikes. They are so mechanical and loaded with physics.

In the past i found it healing to ride at night. Less chance of hikers and more chances to see animals. I met a fat coyote once. We both stopped maybe 20ft facing. At first i thought it was a german shepard. I backed away slowly and turned around.

When i could not ride the trails i would roam the city alleys exploring block by block. In the summer was great to ride and pick fruits from plums to pears.
Be nice if i can ride again someday.

Riding is therapy as it needs us to be in the moment. Listen tires to ground. Feeling the handles. Balancing the machine we are connected too...thus balancing ourselves.
