Inpatient Va Treatment...rules?

My boyfriend went in for inpatient PTSD treatment at the VA. I have had experience with other mental health inpatient treatment. Are the rules similar? Meaning no cell phone, no visitors, no contact with the outside world? I haven't gotten any information so I don't know what is going on. :-(
 
What sort of barbaric treatment cuts you off completely with no visitors or contact with the outside world? I've been in a number of locked door treatment programs/hospitals and none were that strict.
