Inside Out, The Movie; Wow, What Did You Think?

I know several people have mentioned their T's recommended seeing the movie (I think I remembered your T specifically recommended it @scout86 ), so I watched it.

Found it tremendous, though also made me cry (I should say that's a good thing..?) Very different than I expected. And in some ways felt horrific (but at least from the movie I know why). But certainly helped me to 'feel' that all emotions are on my side, & even explained (figuratively) numbness & the 'loss' of emotions, the process (I'm not speaking litearlly of course, but how one emotion can get blocked in lieu of others, focus, etc. Interplay of each.)

What do you think? What did you feel if you watched it?

And do 'core memories' really exist?

Great movie, for the most part :)

Some stuff that was mentioned in the movie, I actually casually use on people :p Which is nice

Other than that, well, analytically, there were many many motives, major and minor, but I like to focus on the micro ones.

For example, how Riley, unlike her parents, has figures of both male and female gender behind the controlboard in her head, making for a possibility of a different gender or sexual orientation for her, which I sorta find interesting, as it was quite secretly put in there :)

Also, it puts a strong emphasis on the "Far from eyes, far from heart" (at least something like that in my language), with her losing a lot in terms of emotional connections with distance, which is a problem with which I also get to deal, definitely relatable

Of course, depression, but I could hardly relate to the way it was shown, it is just sort of much... more intense, for me. WOuld be interesting to see an actually good childrens movie that includes characters with PTSD, not much of that around the place

Those are the first things that fall on my mind

I also loved the movie.

Cried a lot while I saw it in the cinema first time. Sadness reminded me of so many stuff...and that imaginary friend of the girl. I was almost freaking out after the movie that I might lose my imaginary friends on a several graveyard...that's what I don't want. :(

The movie was just great but more for adults than for children. Lots of the jokes and comments cannot be understood until a certain age...:x3::whistling:

Do core memories really exist?

Well, I really do not know, and I doubt we can know for sure, there are some things, events in life that significantly form us as people, and the dumping of memories was shown quite well, sorta.

Another thing regarding the core memories theory to look into would be, I guess, Zipf's law and similar, it's a very fancy statistical thing about strong memories getting even more enforced, and weaker memories getting even weaker and fading, but I highly doubt it is anything like in the animated movie, where they are instantly determined as core, as soon as they happen. It would take some time, some revisions of the memories and similar to actually get to something being a really strong memory

From the perspective of a person interested in working with children, I thought it was an excellent introduction into basic feelings for children. (Pixar's target group) And gotta love the end. ;)

Wow @Anrish ,brave to go to a theatre to see it! :wideeyed:  And @Jen93 , the basics, yes that's what I need. I didn't even know 'disgust' was an emotion :wideeyed:  (but she/'it' had great green shiny hair. :D:roflmao: ) I wished they had included more emotions.

@Saelben missed that but that is  . If you think of encoding of very important memories, perhaps beacuse of strong emotions, I think they're really on to something.

I find sadness/ sorrow easier to see it as severe (depression), when joy is nearly spent. I didn't quite understand the Sadness part originally. Except later to say the experience of sadness can convey the ability to empathize & thus console (others). and that sadness counterbalances Anger & can allow for changing decisions & forgiveness. and tht without joy well, it's a mess. :(

(JMHO, of course, lol. Hey, my dog watched too- no kidding, totally seriously. :inlove: :) )

Yes @Missycat I agree. Logic/ critical thinking & emotions, the 2 very things they normally leave out.

(PS, I adore your avatar. The tide/ beach in the moonlight. Glorious. :) )

What made you guys feel sad when you watched? I have to run but one thing was the islands collapsing & the power going out. I either never had the islands to begin with, or it felt to me like watching my own life/ mind collapse. A bit too realistic after years of ptsd, losses.

I think I had a strange reaction to the movie. I liked it, but it was...... Well, it was utterly fascinating. Like there was a lot there that I'd never thought of and didn't have much of a connection with. Some of it was a little creepy. (That would be the family stuff and that's no doubt me, not the movie.)

My T said he thought they'd left a few things out. I asked what. (Possibly a mistake, but I knew he was looking for an excuse, or really an invitation, to say what ever it was he thought they'd left out.) He said he thought they should have included "vulnerability". Not something I particularly wanted to talk about. :bag:

I have always thought of "Sadness" as the price you pay for letting something or someone become important to you. It was interesting to see that it might serve other purposes, at least for some people, some of the time.

Weird movie, but kind of cool!

Thank you @scout86 .
Some of it was a little creepy. (That would be the family stuff and that's no doubt me, not the movie.)

Yes, same here. I didn't relate to that. Which was 1/2 of the movie lol. Also kind of idealic representation of family life- especially if one's was bad, or non-existant.

Is vulnerability an emotion? (Seriously?) I thought it was a state of life/ not sufficient resources?

Stupid question, but are all emotions what we 'feel'? But is not vulnerability also what we 'are'? (If we are?)

Good for you to watch though.
