Is Anyone Else Having Emdr Sessions At The Moment?

There are some studies showing that the eye movement isn't actually an essential component of EMDR. The bilateral stimulation is, but that is accomplished many different ways , not just via the lights. So sounds, the vibrators..its all valid.

I use bilateral music, via my headphones. You can download music from YouTube. I wouldn't like being touched, or holding things in my hands. They are very sensitive. I also don't tolerate lights well, either.

Using the music gives me the comfort end control that I needed in order to do the EMDR. I can start and stop the sessions at any time.

Hi panda I have and am having emdr sessions I've had two sessions. My third session is tomorrow sort of nervous each time I go. The second session I did complete I'm useing the hand held vibrating/light thing. I can't believe how this thing really works. I'm shocked that something so simple is so powerful. I would like to know how the music thing is working for you? What YouTube ones are you using?

The music works amazing for me. I get complete and total control of starting and stopping the sessions, and that was very important.

If you go to YouTube and search 'bilateral stimulation'. A bunch of options will pop up. Plug your headphones in and listen till you find one that sets right with you. Some of them made me sick to my stomach, others made me anxious. Some even made feel like crying in an instant. Others felt like piercing noises in my ears(my hearing is extremely sensitive too). I found a match and then used an Internet available converter(just google and they come up) to have it transferred to an MP3. Then uploaded to my iPad. I hold my iPads on my lap and we proceed.

Thanks for your reply!

When I went in for the first session I declined the headphones, I get claustrophobic with them, and repeated my disappointment that the therapist didn't have the light belt or wand or something. As it turns out, the little control for the hand pulsers has two lights, left and right, that are synched to the hand vibrations and we figured out how to use them. It made a big difference for me. I'm glad I was persistent and honest about what I wanted and I'm glad the therapist was flexible and resourceful - and attentive to how much I wanted the lights.

I have now had two sessions with her and they were very helpful.
