Hi I'm new here. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with PTSD. My psychologist just referred to me to someone who does EMDR and I start next week. In the meantime I've been doing something that has really been helping me a lot with my generalized anxiety and startle reflex. Its called the I.C.E method and you can find it on youtube. ICE stands for Identify (the feeling ) C stands for calmness bring yourself into a calmed down state) and E stands for Exchange (go back in your mind to the event and feeling and sit quietly and exchange that feeling with the calm state your in) I am surprised how this helps. If you watch the videos on youtube Lars explains why this works. Your changing the peptide connections in your brain. Calming yourself isn't enough to heal PTSD. You must bring the event and past feelings into your awareness and then sit calmly with the discomfort so the peptides can switch over to a calm state. Lots of new brain studies being done, neuroplasticity. Watch his videos. Dee
