As far as someone taking your meds from you, that normally only happens if it is felt you are likely to overdose on them, and in most cases, if that is the case, you would likely be hospitalized instead anyway, as if you're that much in danger of taking them, you should be in the hospital. Is wishing you were dead the same as feeling suicidal? I know this may seem obvious, but I actually mean the focus is in...
From experience, trust plays a big part in what happens when you're in crisis, if the clinician feels they can't trust your behavior that they have to worry about self harm they have to go with caution and seek hospitalization or something like PHP. If they feel they can trust you to be honest about your stay of mind they most likely will work with on maintaining your safety.
Have you considered asking your therapist or doctor for a referral to PHP (partial hospitalization, you go for PHP during the day and return home afterwards), there you can get the support you need to feel better yet not be in hospital.
