My T works with me using Somatic Experiencing developed by Peter A. Levine, PhD, author of In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness. For me it's very hard work, but deeply rewarding. I'm glad we all have so many different tools available to help us on our respective journeys.

Yes, she is. I have other issues too so I've had therapist who weren't. Trauma seems to be my biggest issue lately now so I went with a trauma therapist when I recently switched therapists. I have to say though, there are times when I regret this choice because she is almost so focused on trauma she doesn't know enough about other issues I deal with.

Huh. Maybe its the therapist? As my trauma therapist helps me with absolutely everything. No where close to just trauma. So maybe its the therapist then.

Mine isn't a trauma therapist but there are a few within the same office and he consults with them on a regular basis. He has my permission to do so and he regularly shares their opinions and judgements with me. It's working for now. He is helping me with the depression and SI more than trauma right now because that's the pressing issue. In the future, when I'm more comfortable with the idea,I may transfer to the trauma specialist.

Until I read more thoroughly on this forum, I didn't know there was such thing as a trauma specialist. I had seen many therapists and not one of them was a trauma specialist. Though one I stayed with for 14 years I suspect should now be called a trauma therapist. By the time he had finished treating me and the many clients like me, he was experienced with all kinds of trauma. Excellent T. I moved that's the only reason why I stopped seeing him.

I currently and finally see a trauma specialist T. I like her and she's good. If I raise a concern she explores it with me. Past Ts avoided concerns which I raised. She was appalled that they would do that. Ditto for me.

I see a "Trauma counsellor" she's lovely but mostly just into validation.
I also have a psychologist who's very familiar with DV and trauma, she's a Buddhist and more like a kind friend, she's a free one for uni students at my university.
I was seeing a "Trauma Release Exercises" (TRE its trademarked as) therapist, she was a victim of childhood abuse herself, a bit vulnerable and peer supporty, last year.

I need a more specific therapist, by the sounds of what I've been reading here, to help get out the other side, maybe even some regression, to try find out why all the memory blocks and what happened very very young.

I don't think there's too much choice here though, i live in regional au.

Mine is a high intensity psychotherapist so he deals with people who have more complex mental health problems.
He is the first therapist to recognise I have both PTSD and C-PTSD and has gone much deeper into my problems than any other therapist.

My T is not a trauma specialist but I liked her so I stuck with her anyways. However, she does read different trauma books and consults specialists when dealing with my case.
