I've Got A 'full Set' Of Parents!

My Mum has been suffering badly with arthritis for the past year, having resolved her sore knees with knee replacements about 5 years ago. That gave her such a new lease of life and increased mobility. More recently it has been her back that has been the problem. She has been attending a Pain Clinic and been taking morphine - firstly patches and then onto slow release pills.

Two weeks ago she had an epidural and nerve block which has completely sorted the back pain for now. But she feels so ill, in ways she has found hard to explain. So she went back to her GP and guess what? She is suffering from morphine withdrawals. The GP said she had been turned into a junkie.

So I have one parent who is in jail and the other is a junkie. :no:

I guess that completes the set.

Probably qualifies me to go on the Jeremy Kyle Show!:vomit:

Stupid doctors! I struggled with morphine withdrawal when I was 5 years old because they didn't know how to control my dosage... And then again at age 7, until I changed hospitals. I hope your mom gets well soon.

I spoke to Mum again last night and she said she specifically asked in the pain clinic about the morphine and was told to stop it as she would not need it any more. The nurse giving that advice was only considering the pain control and not the bigger picture. I think that is shocking for someone in a specialist clinic.

She is feeling better, although not completely over it.

Nicolette, Jeremy Kyle is a 'chat show host'. Has been on UK TV for years and just made it into the US also. He sorts out relationship problems for members of the public who put themselves forward, with a back up 'aftercare' team of psychologists. The majority of programs are about DNA tests to establish parentage - sometimes with 2 or 3 men on the stage waiting to find out who the lucky one is!!! It is not what I would call a respected program, but I am addicted to it :)
