@Ellabella44, be very careful of the fine print. Legal wise. So the dog bites someone are you responsible. And if you are an independent contractor you are also responsible to file for both employer and employee taxes. Hefty 15% plus your own taxes, and no SS etc. Like Uber they are skimming and scamming. Be very careful to understand you legal and tax liabilities. And what happens if the dog has a medical issue.

Ask everything you can thing of as the possible worst happening and ask for in writing how these issues are dealt with.

Awesome news! I logged in when I saw your post. My friend started pet-sitting/nannying to help out another pet-sitter who was overloaded. The last time I saw her (she's very busy), I told her how happy and perky she looked. There is a true difference in her voice. :) I think working with our furry friends works for her. I hope it works for you too! Good luck. VB

Yeah I'm not sure how the insurance thing works out. Rover, an online company for pet sitting has a limited liability for their sitters. I'm guessing same thing here , but good question to ask!

She works for herself. I never thought about the liability issue. Interesting, as insurance is my background. It's a word-of-mouth kind of business though, so she and the other sitter just report their earnings on income tax returns. I'll ask her when I next speak with her about this, but she hasn't mentioned it. It's not like care.com or an agency situation at all. I would imagine an agency/business would have this built in; that makes a lot of sense.

If the dog has medical issue I'm to call her and it falls under her umbrella policy. Same for if a dog gets away and bites someone or another dog.

I am hired on a trial basis for now. There is a client Sunday near me so I will start there. The lady I'm working for seems pretty fair and reasonable so far.

Will see how this goes.
