Hi everyone, this may be a long-shot but I am a journalism student at Cal State University Los Angeles and we are writing stories for our school newspaper. Our school has an enrollments of 25,000 students. I chose to do my topic on American troops returning from combat that have PTSD. I feel that in a sense America isn't doing what it can to help returning soldiers deal with the effects of PTSD. I hold soldiers in the highest regard, as they sacrifice everything to defend out freedom, but are we doing everything we can to help them? I feel that PTSD has been overlooked in a sense and that many people don't understand exactly what it is or the impact it has. If anyone is willing to speak to me about it, it can be anonymous, or change your name, or whatever you feel most comfortable with. It can also be a spouse or friend, or family member who would like to share what is it like to deal struggle with the effects PTSD with a loved one. Again I hold all soldiers to the highest regard and I feel that the current American Media has failed us. We should not be glorifying the Kardashians, or wondering who wore what to the golden globes. There are real stories that matter, with real heroes that are sometimes downplayed. I bet the current generation couldn't tell you how many soldiers return from combat with PTSD but they can tell you Harry Styles every move or who said what on twitter. I feel that my classmates and I are the future of journalism and we want to make a change to the future generation. We want the world to be involved with stories that serve mankind and not what society would like for us to see. I want them to see what the cost of freedom really looks like, to educate the generation. Please know that I understand this is a very personal issue and will only share what you want to be shared, what you think people should know. You can message me or post a reply. Thank you in advance!
