Learning About Dissociation

My therapist has asked that I read up on dissociation and I'm kind of glad she did, so I can understand it better. I often dissociate mid session and even out of session there are things that, thinking back on, maybe dissociation too?
So maybe you guys can help me clarify? I've had it where I can see something happening to me but like I'm actually watching it. Another time I got so confused because things seemed blurry and I wasn't sure if was past or present and then talking to someone but also not knowing if it was actually all real? Is all that dissociation too?

i call all that, "dissociation" when it happens to me. i also consider daydreaming to be a form of detachment.

for what it's worth
when done mindfully, i believe dissociation can be a good thing. it makes boring lectures, etc., more tolerable.

This would be depersonalization.

This would be derealization.

To answer your last question: Yes!

Both are forms of dissociation… and I have it as well. I ground myself by touching something stable in the room… and breath through. Of If I can’t I excuse myself and go to the bathroom until I come back… 🧚‍♂️
