@joeylittle - I'm putting my ignorance right out there with this. I know that...
@Ragdoll Circus
My hunch is that the people who develop PTSD from boot camp have prior exposure to trauma.

Unless the trigger for PTSD is sexual trauma or being beaten by other recruits. Or something else outside the normal training.

Here's the thing, though. There are a lot of things that need to happen in boot camp. Let's take rappelling. If something goes wrong, it can cause PTSD. So can weapons training, gas chamber, confidence course. You can't cut things that could cause PTSD and still train people

It is stressful. It's supposed to be.

They are re-wording/simpifying the formal diagnosis for an article (that I cant wait to read)...
@lostforgottensoul

The DSM 5 is already out. That's what is used to officially diagnose.

As the saying goes treat the symptoms, not the diagnosis.
A good therapist will still work with someone who doesn't quite hit the diagnosis

There's actually a new disgnosis for a stress reaction that doesn't meet ptsd criteria. I don't remember the name without looking it up

Right, it is a month. Don't know where my brain went.

I actually looked it up because I got the feeling it was wrong but didn't have time to post.

I am really so f- ing stupid now.

This is basic knowledge and I can't remember enough anymore.

I am also interested in the relationship between PTSD and sensory integration issues. Myself and many of the people with PTSD I know in real life seem to struggle with processing sensory information from the environment in various ways. For example, I can not understand or tolerate loud noise or bright lights (unrelated to trauma event) but developed with PTSD symptoms. I know quite a few of us who under respond to sensory information from the environment as well, it just doesn't get through.
