I apologize, I'm a newbie, my brain isn't working well and I was trying to be helpful. I don't know how to work posts yet. The last thing I want to be is rude. I'm so sad and sorry if I offended anyone. In fact, I'm now weeping I feel so bad. I don't believe anyone in my long life has called me "rude." Not even my big sister. I'm sick about it.

Hi Ed,

Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion about Wellbutrin. I'll talk to my doctor about it tomorrow, as well.

Right now, I'd settle for moderate depression over this crippling severe depression with suicidal ideation.;)

@Time to Heal. You're sweet to reply. I haven't gotten the rules about abbreviations down yet. I have never been this sensitive or severely depressed before so I am unable to concentrate well. I cry at the drop of a hat. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I will not use abbreviations from now on and play it safe.;)

I take Lithium though I have bipolar disorder and lithium is my wonder drug. My other drugs helped me to stabilize mentally but I think of lithium as the drug that allowed me to have a daily life and the whole reason college is possible.

It can work with all kinds of mood disorders, not just Bipolar Disorder. And with depression it is normally used with other things...

I haven't actually heard of it helping for suicidal ideation but I have heard (and was told) that it works to help prevent suicide (so I think very slightly different from suicidal ideation). And that is not it's off the label effect. It actually labeled like that.

"Lithium may exert its antisuicidal effects by reducing relapse of mood disorder, but additional mechanisms should also be considered because there is some evidence that lithium decreases aggression and possibly impulsivity, which might be another mechanism mediating the antisuicidal effect."

I'm delighted Lithium works so well for your bi-polar disorder. Yes, I've heard it works well for depression, as well.

More valuable information to take to my doctor tomorrow.

And, thank you for the package insert details regarding suicide. In essence, that jibes with what I read today.

@sunnyfan I didn't realize when I wrote that, that the last part might have seen as a package insert. My fault! It's not actually...it's from a government website and a study that was done with Lithium. Lithium has been around since the 50's so there is a lot of information about it. If I knew where my package insert was I would share it with you...

@Ayesha , thanks dear, I'll work on learning how to tag. I appreciate the info re:Lithium. It's saved my cousin's life. I didn't mean to imply you pulled info out of package insert, my apology. I know it's been around for a long time and found aforementioned research about it yesterday and today. Thanks.
