New Here
Greetings,

I am an OIF vet on tour. I worked with the Iraqi Army on a MiTT. I spent a year with just my team and I living, eating and working with the Iraqi Army. I guess the stress got to me a bit and I suffer from anger issues and anxiety in public places. I took 2 years before I finally sought out assistance because like so many others I was in denile that I had an real issues. But it turns out I have some pretty moderate to severe issues according to the social worker and the psych doc. I have ben working on my issues without taking any meds and trying to work it that way. Seems to help. Except at night when the demons begin to appear that I had to take meds to sleep, but it is taking more and more to help, but the doc stated not an issue since I can take up to a certain amount and then we may have to look at something else. But I have not gotten that far. It still does not take much to flip th e"on switch" to get me going but I try real hard to use what the doc wanted me to do. Other issues still at time of triggers dealing with the sudden thought of IEDs on the side of the road. The adrenaline suddenly pumps up and it is like being in theater all over again.

Morning Glockster. Sounds like you're aware and getting advice. The IED bit is understandable. Hope this place helps you as it has me.

Hi Glockster, and welcome to the family. Hope you find a conection and good info that helps.

And Keep ya head down mucker, I have no idea how long you stillhave to go, but you ain`t out there forever! Focus on the job and come home in one piece, physicaly if not mentaly. hang in there!

Welcome mate. I have been on my meds now for 5 years. I thought it was weak to take medication and denied I had problems. More fool me.
Don't be ashamed or worry about medication, everyone's ultimate goal is to do enough therapy and work though their demons so they don't need medication. Good luck to you.
90% of the people on here are on some form of medication. They don't have to be mind altering ones that zone you out, but just something to help with sleep and anxiety.

As for your IED fears, that is normal and will fade over time mate. I used to look sideways at any vehicle riding low on the springs after numerous experiences in Baghdad. I even used to check everyone out wearing burqa's. It's all normal.

The good thing is that you may be able to share your strategies for tackling the beast with us.

I look forward to it.

Hi Glockster welcome to the site. Seems like your taking the steps you need instead of ignoring the beast, so good for you.

Welcome, Glockster, you've found the right place. This site is full of good info and the folks friendly and helpful. Pull up a chair and join in.

Hey Glockster

Welcome aboard. I know it's tough at the point you're at right now, but at least you're doing something about it. Hang in there. This is a great place with super info and supportive people. It helps. I know it's hard but give it some time and be patient with yourself.

Welcome. Hope you continue the treatment as it does help. I have been gone from the sand for 20 years and I still get worked up around Arabs. Good luck!
