Meds Stress

Anyone else?

It seems that I am hyper sensitive to medications. I have been on low doses now of various SSRIs, fluoxetine, citalopram, diazepam, to name a few. each giving me a new set of side effects. Paroxetine finally did the trick but six months down the line the positive effects wore off. I could not tolerate even a 5mg increase of it (only on 10mg) so Dr put me on a low dose of trazodone.

Well I have never been so bad. I took it before bed last night there was no difference to my sleep pattern. My husband had to take today off work as I could not be left alone, the worst headache of my life, could not open my eyes, if i sat or stood up I felt sick and dizzy. I almost went to a&e it was that bad. it is wearing off a little now.

I feel I am over meds now. my body just cant handle them but I am at a loss as to alterantives. I have tried all the yoga, exercise, meditation, mindfulness, herbal remedies. They help a little but not enough.

Wish I could just react normally.

Has anyone else been through this? and what are you now doing?

@rosey What dose of Trazodone did they start you on????

@rosey Yes, that is a low dose, but you could cut it in half and take 25mgs and see if the side effects are less. I take Traz, for sleep. I just had to up my dose to 150. I've been on and off of it forever it seems. I used to be very med sesnsitive, but the older I got, the less that happens now.

I'm really sorry, and I hope they can come up with something for you to take.

Thanks @She Cat They are capsules so not able to half the dose, I asked this on being prescribed as I have had to do that with other meds. This has been by far the worst reaction I have had and gave me a fright.

Glad you are having better luck on it. I am sure that something will work but taking a break for now I think have a bit of a detox. I am waiting for someone to invent a memory wipe which could be the answer, think I will have a long wait.

Thanks again.

I am on citilopram and i found i have to take them at exactly the same time each day - if i take them late - even by an hour two days in a row the side effects are unbelievable! When i take them on time though they really are working well for me. I never wanted to be on meds but cbt did not work for me at all and ptsd was ruining my everyday life. Hope this helps in some way x

Thanks @Guitargirl interesting that you have to be so regular in taking your meds.

I was the same in not wanting to take anything I am on a low dose of paroxetine too which was the only drug not to give me trouble. it takes the edge off a little but not helping the sleep. I am reluctant to try anything else now so just letting nature do its thing.

I have some weird dreams since i have been on meds - i often dream im in the car - which is the source of my anxiety - in some shape or form, i can be crouching in the passenger footwell, or driving - really weird and very vivid!
