Mine would not allow me to have friends at all, he wanted to be my sole person, for me to have no other friends or even my family! He even made me call someone she was my friend and tell her that I didn't want to be her friend anymore. I did, then I had NO ONE but him in my life. And because of him, my family did not want me anymore.

He was also physically abusive to me, adding insult to injury. I am so glad I ran away from him. I tried to run away 17 times before I finally succeeded.

I'm sorry but anyone that calls someone names in an argument is a bad apple in my book. I don't think that's normal at all.

@twinkle86 the point being made is about the distinction between the on-going mental abuse within abusive relationships and someone saying something they shouldn't whilst in the midst of a two way argument.

Yes I get that point. That being said I was just pointing out that name calling is never normal and should never be tolerated.

Believe me I know what an abusive relationship is having been in one before. I just think sometimes people who have been in abusive relationships start to think certain things are normal and they are not. No secure, emotionally mature person would resort to name calling during an argument.

I wouldn't know, I'm not emotionally normal and don't resort to name calling. But I've heard plenty of people talking about their partners say 'he's being such a bastard' or 'she's being such a bitch' and when I listen to what they have to say, they aren't being abused and they aren't being abusive. They are healthy and stable people talking about non-abusive relationships.
