Mentally Disabled Siblings, Can Anyone Relate?

I know this because when it was on the news my father said oh thats the guy who abused Troy. I never knew. My father just always assumed I knew or my mother had told me. I said to my dad no I was young I had no idea what was happening. he looked heart broken. I love my father deeply he did the best he could in the circumstance. I can tell he is traumatized too he can hardly talk about it. but has opened up to me because he has realized he needs to help my healing. he did not know about the sexual trauma until yesterday.

That must mean all media is a stressor or trigger for you at the moment.

no it hasn't really as I dont have flash backs. my only triggers or phobias are yelling violence & some severely mentally disabled people.

Oh your poor father. And poor you. Gosh - that is a lot for you all to have on your plates.

I looked for The Black Balloon on Netflix--no dice. I'm going to go to my local video store today and see if they have it. They seem to have everything. I'm really glad for this recommendation. I think it will be an interesting counterpoint to the movie Snowflake (about an autistic parent), which is also excellent.

Well, I didn't say that. Reread the last post if it would help with the offensive feelings. I listed caregivers or social services, the state, the "system". And reread the last sentence.

Just not interested in this thread anyway, but wanted to clear that up.

I have a younger brother that has schizophrenia and has to live in an assisted living facility. I seldom get to see him and when I do, the things he says are mostly disconnected from reality and it is so hard to deal with.

My brother was not my abuser(s), but I do know what it is like to have a mentally disabled sibling.

I still haven't seen The Black Balloon but I did watch What's Eating Gilbert Grape? for the first time and loved it.
