Please do not fall for this scam, it could cost you a fortune and more.
Has anyone had a phone call, supposedly from Microsoft, telling you there is a problem with your PC.
I had one yesterday, but luckily I did not fall for it.
They start off by telling you the problem lies with your PC running slow because of it having a virus in the system, and it is sending it out. Luckily Microsoft know about it and and are calling you to sort it out for you.
This is where I went into defense mode asking him, how this could be when my security system, was excellent and even blocked things which it should not at times. This guy went on to tell me that this happened with windows security system at times, but would not once they took me through how to sort it.
Ding Ding Ding the bells were like sirens.
Nope I use my own security system I told him, and it had not let a virus in and none had been sent out to any other PC from mine.so he asked if it were licensed. Ah, this one is hidden and I would not know it seems, until it was too late. I thought they were all hidden ???
After a few more minutes of this numpty trying to pull the wool, I cut the call, (I was curious how far it would go) then phoned my daughter. She works for a big mobile phone company, and handles the broadband side of their stuff complete with all security issues daily. She told me to Google Microsoft Spammers, and click on the UK links for the latest up dates of all of this.
The latest report about this was dated 19th may 2011, just a week ago.
OOO are they clever and crafty if you do not know anything.
If you fall for it, they will have you giving them permission to remote view your PC, tell you the problem lies within the Event Viewer, telling you all sorts of crap. They will then persuade you to let them download a security system for you, to be paid by card, then they have you.
They can charge you a fortune, and possibly stealing personal details from your PC.
If you get a call like this tell them to shove their phone and PC where the sun don't shine.
MICROSOFT DO NOT CALL YOU. They never have and they have no plans to.
