Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Prayers and positive thoughts worked. The vet said he was a very lucky boy. It looks as if he ran onto a root or branch and impaled his chest. Luckily it did not pierce anything major and as he got himself free he ripped his chest open.
He came home last night and slept on my bed. He is obviously very subdued and sore but I'm sure he will recover. He is eating (the vet has given some recovery food which looks and smells like a rather nice pate - no, I haven't tried it). I put his liquid pain meds on the food and his anti biotic in some cheese.
He doesn't like to walk, even to the kitchen. I don't think he likes the dressing which is coming loose and obviously it hurts.
I was so relieved to have him home. He completely scuppered our plans for the night. We were due to go and stay with my daughter overnight. It had been planned for weeks and we were looking forward to it so much. She was very upset, but we will have to plan it in the new year.
