My Dog Max Is Recovering

Not sure if this will work or not on Max KP, but if you put a small amount of fresh lemon or grapefruit juice on the fur about an inch or so away from the wound it may stop him licking it.

Put some on a cotton wool ball and wipe in onto the fur. Keeping it the inch or more away from the wound, if the smell don't put him off, the taste should.

Max is home, both dogs and I have had a nice nap. He is as soft as ever. A little subdued because of the meds.

I take him for another check up on Thursday and possibly again to have the drain out on Saturday - H has picked a good time to be away - not.

Putting Max in a T shirt seems to be working. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the wound. I've asked both my girls if they have old tight fitted T shirts which he can wear - I've requested bright ones preferably with fairies or butterflies - Max will look so stupid, well a girl must find humour somewhere .

I just hope the wound heals this time.

It will KP. If he is wearing a T shirt and has a drain in, dont use the juice.

Wait until the drain is out, a bit of healing will have begun then.

Fingers crossed that Max's wound heals better this time.

If the insurance can cover the vet keeping him in confinement for a couple of days that helps the healing. We had to do this for one of our cats with the same problem. Not an easy choice but the nurses were really kind.

I took him for a check up today. I'm exhausted from man handling him, he was a star for the vet and lay on his back whilst the nurse stroked his tummy and the vet inspected the wound. The vet said it is healing OK ish. I need to wash it with salty water everyday - yuck, I'm not good with stuff like that.

I take him back to the vet on Saturday hopefull to have the drain out.

Max is so full of enegy and I just haven't any energy. I am struggling to walk him as he is so strong, he wrenched my back and shoulder tonight by wanting to charge after a cat. Tomorrow I will put him in a head collar. He was so unco-operative when I was putting a clean T shirt on him and trying to safety pin it to fit. I was in tears, I am finding it so hard to cope.

I'll give the next update after the next vet visit.

I am glad at least Max is feeling good. That has to be a good thing. Good luck with the cleaning. Ugh... I am terrible at those kinds of things. Prayers for both of you!!

KP,

I am glad that Max is feeling better. But it can be challenge to hold on when they decide to after something. (Found myself going down a hill on my side this morning when my Newfie too off after something.) Hopefully he will be all healed soon.

Thanks Sammy.

I spoke to my H tonight. He had the brilliant suggestion of using a small spray bottle filled with the water and gently spraying the area. This would mean I didn't have to do the hands on approach.

Max came and snuggled on my knee earlier , as if to say 'sorry Mummy'.

Thanks to everyone for caring about me and my equally dopey dog.
