My Nightmare With Seroquel

My older sister was diagnosed with dementia and was put on seroquel and was on it for 10 years, I wrote to her GP and requested that she been took of it about 4 years ago. I assumed it was done and they were keeping an eye on her. However it was when she was very ill in a care home that one of the nurses told me that she was still on the seroquel the same drugs that she was on when in hospital after a car accident in 2004.

I felt ill when I heard that and went to see her GP straight away but the GP I wrote to has left the practice and a new GP took over my sisters case. He took her off the seroquel immediately but I feel the damage has been done.

I was put on seroquel for sleep and anxiety. I believe it was 25mg, as needed. Well, how is it supposed to be helpful for anxiety, when it makes me sooo drowsy and unable to stay awake? I usually have my anxiety at work, and then taking it and being unable to stay awake would just put me in a terrible situation.

Even when I only took half a pill, what the dr suggested for anxiety. I quit taking it for anxiety. For sleep, it would knock me the fudge out. For 12+hours. Luckily while the time I was on it, I either worked very little, or didn't have a job at all. So I liked being able to be away from the world for those 12-16 hours. After waking up though, I would ALWAYS have a headache.

Then when I started going to the free clinic after moving to another county with a different program for low income patients, they would only prescribe XR, saying it was the same thing and that it worked the same. NO, it was a total different animal! I would have to take it 6 hours before going to bed, even after it made me tired, it wasn't like the IR.

Dang, that was a year ago I just realized! I still have a full bottle of the XR in my medicine cabinet, but I never take it anymore. It's just not worth the headaches. Well, and now I have to have a full time job, so it's not practical to take it, it would make it even harder to work.
