My Preferred Method Of Dealing With Sleeplessness-now Considered Real Science!

Being a city boy and disgruntled old grunt I am not much of a camper. But I do understand the insatiable need to be in the tranquil Adirondacks. A cabin far away from it all. I just like a bit more creature comfort.

Sometimes you just have to wander off into the wilderness and return looking, smelling and feeling your finest.

Also fire and meat and stars you can actually see.

I admit usually by day three in Death Valley and the Sierra Nevadas, even clothing became optional.

It is those cave man genes!

I am country, really farm boy, raised by a colonel who loved fishing. I do too. I have dreamed many times of just going off by myself with some good equipment and just be in nature. The scenes are tranquilizing for me. We camped a lot together. When I got through survival (SERES) training he was too frail to go with me.

And so I don't sleep very well. The Study is sound.

I'm more of a beach bum, or hot springs in the snow chick, myself.

I have difficulties with tents, though. Prefer to sleep out, or behind steel. #MissMyJeep.

What I really need, though, are squid lessons (and a couple hundred k :) ). I'm nowhere near as good a sailor as I'd like to be, and I really really love sailboat + ships cat + touching base with civilization once a blue moon. Could become boat people far too easy. Best of most worlds.

Till then, though... Miles and miles of empty coastline. Although a river or lake (sans gators & crocodiles) will do in a pinch.

I do miss a good, hipster-free hot spring. Damned BurningMan resulted in all the best ones becoming well known, now they are shitholes.

I know of a few back of beyond. Miss the hell outta the ones in northern Japan. Love to go to Iceland or Finland someday.

Camping by a river, with a helluva lot of firewood & rock nearby I'll dig my own hot tub, sometimes. Hole next to the river, sluice gates, and rocks heated up in the fire to heat the water. Helps to have plastic, or a nice good clay base, to stop the attrition.

There was some saline hot springs in the Atacama that were wicked good. Had to be careful though as they were known to outgas CO2 in a hurry and then drastically increase in temperature. Used to always take a digital thermometer with me. LMAO.

the ones in Utah were pretty damn good, but lost them to hipsters. Most are full of broken beer bottles and PBR cans now.

My circadian rhythm is broke. Or this study is BS.

Hence why I'm awake @ 3am. Again! And here I sit!

I'm outside all day. Check. I hate lights so many stay out in the evening. Drives the wife insane cause she'll come home from work late and I'll be wandering around in the dark. But my eyes have adjusted. I hate lights on.

3 hours sleep. I've come to realize that's all I'm allowed to have. I think my biggest issue is I sleep to light. Lightest sounds seem to wake me. If I use earplugs then that attenuates my tinnitus. Ambient noise will mask it a little at least.

O yeah camping is really good you can say f*ck you society for a little while and go up and go camping and not see a single soul if you don't want to.
