Last October, my current psychiatrist moved across the state, but was still going to work with some of her lower needs patients remotely. Via phone and email through the group practice she is a part of.
We had a phone appointment today and she let me know that it's turned out to be much harder than she had realized to keep her current remote status. She has two small children and it's been difficult to juggle child care for an ever changing schedule. Vs being in the office a few set days each week. She took a handful of very important patience with her, saying she kept me and a few others became we were really special to her and she just couldn't fathom passing us on to a new person at the time. People she's had make amazing progress....and wanted to stay vested in out work.
I understand, totally understand! I've got kids too. But my heart is sad, I really like her and I've worked so hard to be honest and open with her. She's been super great, patient, she's knowledgeable, listens to me, let's me take the lead and doesn't poo poo my over sensitivity to medication. She allows me to openly(with notice) juggle dosing up/down based on how I'm doing. Overall, I hit the jackpot on the first try wth a psychiatrist.
She's headed to a conference this week, and one of the presenters just happened to join the group practice and will be coming on staff in the office the end of January. She's going to speak with her personally about taking my case, and is hoping to help make a smooth transition for me. The possibly new psychiatrist was actually the one who helped her trouble shoot my medication reactions and suggested she try the amantadine with me.
I'm so sad....I really like her! She promised to let me know asap after she speaks to the new psychiatrist. I'd like to pretend this isn't bothering me, but it is.
