My spine surgery journey: from preparation to recovery

Thank you guys, for being with me through this.
I really don't think I could do this otherwise.

I didn't get back to sleep.
I had to have another blood test this morning, but still no news from the blood test or xrays from during the night.

My pain started breaking through the morphine for about an hour ago.
I had a mini panic attack when that happened. I called my nurse and she gave me some more oral morphine.
I know that it's constipating, but I also know that because I'm so tired from last night, my pain threshold will be much lower.

I asked my nurse about any results and she said the doctor will come by my room when they have them.
The doctor? Or the doctor?

I have two cups of that disgusting laxative made up and sitting on my table.
You drank salt water dammit bellbird, you can drink this one too.

Drinks now.
Then shower.

You can do this, bellbird . You can do this.

I think it's good that they did the x-ray etc., they are checking for a blockage or other complication. They are treating this issue seriously - I hope they don't find anything wrong and this settles down quickly.

If you need the morphine then there isn't much else you can do about that. Being in terrible pain doesn't help anything. I'm sure they are sticking to the conventional limits for this drug. You are not even a week post op yet but you are doing well. Take heart - this problem will ease and go away.

I'm glad you have a medical team that are on the ball. Bonus the registrar is easy on the eye. Can you describe him to us?

And... we are all here too! We are your mental health supporters.. lol... emphasis on the mental!!

??????

You CAN do it! ?
I concur, you really can do it!!!
Yes, you will get through this!, of the non-squeeze kind...
Thank you guys
I did it -- showered and washed hair, and drank two of the drinks-from-hell
Bonus the registrar is easy on the eye. Can you describe him to us?
Tall. Quite trim. Dark brown hair. A little facial hair. Blue eyes. A slight tan. A calm and kind demeanour.

Do I sound like a creeper?

And... we are all here too! We are your mental health supporters.. lol... emphasis on the mental!!:oops:
LMAO! Well, I'm mostly mental but also very supportive of @bellbird who I care a lot for :)
Y'all here are the best  :inlove:
Thank you for the flowers ?

Still no news on my xrays or blood tests.
It's 5.30pm now, so I take it I won't hear anything until tomorrow morning when the doctors do their rounds.

It could be taken as a positive, as I suppose if there was something critical, it would have been marked as high priority that a doctor speak to me.

But then I also hope it hasn't come back as "inconclusive", because that gets us no where either.
Still no movement of bowels.
And still very tired from last night.

But I'm clean from my shower, and my nurse made my bed fresh as well.
I don't need to do anything for the rest of today, so Mr Bear and I are watching some TV, and hopefully we can have an early night.

Another night, another 3am wakeup in pain.

Just had some pain meds and anti nausea. Really hope it kicks in soon.

Last night my nurse was able to get another doctor to come see me.
He had a look at my xrays and said there is an area in my intestines with a build up of faeces, so I do have an obstruction.

No wonder I am in pain like this.

He said it wasn't major enough to have any interventions last night (which is good because I'd actually had my sleep meds before he had seen me, so sleep was my priority at the time too.

But tomorrow (today) we would make a plan to ameliorate it.

That plan must be more than just another enema, because even those have stopped helping.

Feeling quite nervous about it.
But also it will be so so nice to have this resolved
