Need To Get Control Of Urge For High Risk Activities.....

Adrenaline lovers & not....adrenals or PTSD. Interesting info - I'm going to read a bit on this out of curiosity.

Thanks everyone for the responses, it was surprising and not one sided at all. I'm still thinking about how to approach this.

Chaos and crisis felt normal somehow. Once I became a Mom I started avoiding I think to protect my babies.

I do well in chaos as well, I remember staff telling me how they would feel stress during emergencies and I just couldn't relate. Loved it. It worked well though, as I didn't mind handling it at all. Always geared for a battle I guess.

Still thinking about my situation ....

Otherwise, I admit to being more than a little envious of your upcoming adventures!

Thanks for this, the levity. I wonder if I am overreacting at times, I seem to swing emotionally and I am simply not good with that. I miss my "normal" decisiveness and control. I used to joke emotions are a "4 letter word".

Have a good day everyone

I guess it depends on what kind of high risk activities we're talking about. I downhill ski pretty agressivly, mountain bike, climb mountains, have skied some somewhat dangerous backcountry mountains. I have had multiple concussions, broke my hand, tore my ACL, had really bad whiplash, etc, and its all been worth it.

If youre going 95mph on the highway and get the urge to just close your eyes thats a bit different.

Life isnt supposed to be safe though. Maybe you jus tlike feeling alive? I actually find that my adrenalin producing activities are absolutly essential to my mental wellbeing. Without them I stress, worry, adrenalin comes at random times and finds no outlet, with them I control my endorphins and focus their effects into mostly healthy outlets and spend less energy just worrying. Mountaineering is dangerous, but if youre careful it can be done quite safely for an entire lifetime. I think you should tell your therapist to hush. People we'rent meant to live safe sedentary lives.

I used to train horses, the crazier the better. I agree, that it was a good outlet for my anxiety and stress. Especially since I was scared the whole time and welcomed the challenge (back then).

I think that is part of how humans find value with who they are as people, how they meet adversity. Some of that value is imparted from our parents but a lot we get from facing challenges, and mountains, and getting to the top of them, are some of the oldest purist most classic challenges in life.

When I was very new here, I also thought this way. Now people will start judging me and I will not get the support and help I am asking for.

Instead I feel loved and supported here. I can get insights on the subject I share here. I think we have more understanding people here and it's good to be surrounded by them.

:inlove:

You all have really surprised me, this is wonderful. I do believe there is a positive component to my interests and I was struggling against the belief that this was all a "symptom"...as in something wrong with it on some level. I can't express my appreciation enough for the balanced advice.

I am seeing the same thing. For such a crappy reason people here were drawn together...it seems to have created a very special place. Nothing is so bad its not good for something? ;)

Have a great day, Whirlwind
